When you’re living a good life and getting almost everything you want, why would you consider even thinking about helping others? Isn’t it that people only start to help or care when a calamity strikes them or the same disease hits their system?

Well, do you have to wait for the worse situation to strike before you come to your senses and start helping? Aside from the strong emotional force, how could you possibly be more physically effective in helping others when you’re already crippled or when you could barely speak.

Well yes you can write or reach out to others to do things for you but why wait?! Just as perfect time to buy an insurance policy is when you don’t need it, the perfect time to help is when you don’t need it yet. Don’t be mobilized by some unfortunate circumstances. Help when you can, Help Now!

People don’t care how much you know, unless they know how much you care – Theodore Roosevelt

Thoughts

The desire to help starts with the thoughts like, “How can I help?”

With a mindset that’s willing to help, nothing is impossible. Though you may be in a situation when you need some help yourself, you would be amazed at myriad of ways that you can help in your own little way. Just as the famous saying of Abraham Lincoln goes,

“To ease another’s heartache is to forget one’s own.”

Resources and Efforts

With a little time and effort from your part, you can help feed and educate a child in one impoverished area of the world such as Haiti and Africa and even in your local community. It takes a helping hand and a compassionate heart to identify possible ways that you can help those people. Sometimes it takes money, time and effort to help others. Thinking that it would take away precious time from your already busy schedule, Think Again! The Savior devoted His entire life on Earth in His ministry — in healing the sick, in feeding the hungry and eventually saving us all from all our sins. Would a few hours of your time to help those who need compare to the sacrifices that the Savior was required? Not at all. Besides, helping doesn’t necessarily require donating millions of money to the charity. Most of the time, organizations require manpower of helping hands and willing hearts to volunteer in feeding and distributing goods or or to participate in activities that usually donate a portion of the total money raised such as marathon, cycling, among others. Think of an activity that you are passionate about and be willing to do it for free or agree on having the proceeds donated to your chosen charity organization.

Time

There are various programs and campaigns that do not necessarily require monetary donation or support. Your willingness to share some of your precious time is what usually matters and most organizations need.

God does not ask your ability, or your inability. He asks only your availability.- Mary Kay Ash

Now, why should you bother helping? Or even thought of helping? Because the purpose of life is a life of purpose.

“I am only one, but still I am one.

I cannot do everything, but still I can do something; and because I cannot do everything, I will not refuse to do something I can do.”  ~ Edward Everett Hale
