The Process of Learning, Unlearning and Relearing
The illiterate of the 21st century will not be those who cannot read and write but those who cannot learn, unlearn and relearn. – Alvin Toffler
Every little thing that happens, whether they be good or bad, all add up to that thing which we call experience.
Reading David King’s You Can Succeed has been both motivating and exhausting. Unlike most books that really compel you do to something or other authors who may use jargons to make them appear smarter than they actually are , David King uses simple words and ideas that you think you might have known and learned somewhere in the past (which sometimes makes you think you know where you’re reading is going to lead you), only to prove you are wrong as you might have encountered them yet failed to set to action.
One thing which really struck me was when he said that that success starts from thoughts then it gradually evolve to ideas, visions and eventually become goals.
Take up one idea. Make that one idea your life – think of it, dream of it, live on that idea. Let the brain, muscles, nerves, every part of your body, be full of that idea, and just leave every other idea alone. This is the way to success, that is way great spiritual giants are produced. - Swami Vivekananda
Think about it.
It all starts with a simple yet powerful thought (that is why you need to constantly add up positive thoughts as they are essential to success) then positive thoughts lead to positive ideas – positive visions – positive goals = success.
In Order to Succeed, You Need to be Specific
Most people are fond of making New Years Resolution and have a habit of putting off improvements and growth to be planned and executed on the New Year instead of striving to live them each day – today.
The song “I Wanna Be a Billionaire” by Travie McCoy is an inspiring song. He goes on saying about what his specific wants are like smiling next to Oprah and the Queen. He shared his desire to travel in different city every night and the likes. He was so sure about what he wants unlike most people that just wanna get rich. That’s just about it. They just want to live a luxurious life without thinking what specific things do they really want out of life.
The other thing which the song lacks though is the specific set of plans and course of actions he would take that would enable him to live his dream.
In setting goals, we need direction and directions need to be specific or you’ll get lost. Having a complete map of where you want to go will still get you nowhere unless you try to look for those place and move.
No rules of success will work if you don’t.
There Are Many Ways that Lead to Success – Others May Seem that They’re Not
Never hate the times in your life where you have failed. Though they may be hard to accept, these are the times wherein we stand back up and show the world that failures don’t define us but it is what makes us STRONGER. Keep on keeping on!
There are times when you feel that what you’re doing may not lead to where you’re going or some things that happen may seem so irrelevant to achieving your goal but even seemingly worthless bits of information may, like the antique, turn into something valuable over time.
The Story of the Stones and Diamonds
A group of travelers in the desert were preparing to retire for the evening when suddenly they were surrounded by a bright light. They discovered a celestial being standing right before them. With great excitement, they awaited a heavenly message of utter importance.
Finally, the being spoke,
” Gather as many stones as you can and put them in your bags. Travel for a day and tomorrow night you will be both glad and sad”.
After having departed, the nomads shared their disappointment and anger with each other. They had expected a great earth-shaking message that would make them hopeful, prosperous, satisfied and happy. But instead they were given a menial task that made no sense at all.
However, the impact of the heavenly being’s visit was so overwhelming that everybody started picking up a few stones, depositing them in their bags while voicing their displeasure.
They traveled for a day and that night while making camp, they reached out into their bags and discovered that every stone they had picked up had become diamonds!
They were glad. Very glad that they had diamonds. But, they were so sad that they had not gathered more stones.
At some point in our lives, we may feel that the things were experiencing are burdens and we can’t help but complain. Little did we know that these experiences were given to us to prepare us for so much blessing.
Don’t be afraid to gather and carry loads of stones along the way and these would strengthen your back and would someday turn into diamonds of success!
Don’t count what you lost but cherish what you have and plan what you want to gain. The past never returns but the future may fulfill the loss.
